ROLAND B. GITTELSOHN One of the oldest Reform congregations on Long Island, Central Synagogue of Nassau County has been serving the South Shore for over seventy years and has established an illustrious record. Its founding rabbi, Roland B. Gittelsohn, rose to national prominence as a chaplain on Iwo Jima. He was the author of numerous books, and a leader in the Reform rabbinate. |
|
GEORGE B. LIEBERMAN Rabbi George B. Lieberman, Rabbi Gittelsohn's successor, was a noted scholar, pastor, and pioneer of the Soviet Jewry movement. We are proud of the leadership role Central Synagogue has played in the religious and civic life of Rockville Centre and the surrounding community. Over the years we have had the privilege of being guided by numerous leaders of the local community and the national institutions of Reform Judaism and world Jewry. |
