The Brotherhood of Central Synagogue is sponsor to Boy Scout Troop 214 and Cub Pack 31.
Cub Pack 31 is for boys in grades 1 through 5. We meet once a month at Central Synagogue and love to welcome new scouts! Cub Scouts is all about fun, teamwork, and learning to respect others and our environment. We participate in a wide variety of activities and outings throughout the year that enrich both our scouts and their families. If you have any questions, please contact Cubmaster Myra Plonsky at 764-0081.
Boy Scout Troop 214 is for young men in grades 5 through 12. The troop meets at Central Synagogue every Tuesday evening from 7:25-9:00pm. Come down and visit! Come down and join! New Scouts can join Troup 214 at any time.
Boy Scout Troop 214 attracts young men from all around the South Shore: Lynbrook, Merrick, Valley Stream, Long Beach, Baldwin, Oceanside, and Rockville Centre. It has a diverse group of youngsters with many different cultural backgrounds. Scouting is an exciting experience for youth. In Scouting the older boys lead the younger boys, while adults are at all events for proper supervision and guidance. Besides the obvious camping programming that Scouting provides (monthly camping trips), it teaches skills in such diverse subjects as camping, first aid, citizenship, personal management, and leadership training. The boys are provided courses, starting in their first year in the troop, on how to be leaders. These courses teach the boys how to organize and lead the group, and teach the groups skills. Troop 214 attends summer camp for two weeks every July at Camp Workcoeman in New Hartford, Connecticut.
Troop 214 also participates in projects at Central Synagogue as a community service. Both Cub Scout pack 31 and Boy Scout Troop 214 belong to the Theodore Roosevelt Council of Boy Scouts of America.
The troop is very proud that its members earn the coveted Eagle Scout rank at a rate much higher than the national average.
A full program of fun, camping, and excitement awaits when a youth joins Troop 214.
