SOCIAL ACTION

The Social Action Committee is looking for those who care about tikkun olam (repairing the world). Our committee is small, but active. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Family Room (behind the bima). We have just started working on a year long partnership with New Ground, a social service agency working with homeless families and veterans. Come and share your thoughts and expertise. We welcome all ideas.

For more information contact Sheryl Brustein.

Reform Jewish Voice

The Reform Jewish Voice (RJV) of New York State engages congregations as advocates for progressive social and economic policies at the state level. Through conferences and advocacy programs, RJV interacts with more than 100 Reform congregations in New York State with nearly 100,000 members. RJV brings Reform Jewish values and the spirit of tikkun olam to state policy makers through this extensive network of individuals and congregations

New Ground

The Social Action Committee is continuing its partnership with New Ground, a local community-based agency in Hempstead that provides social services to homeless and formerly homeless families and veterans throughout Long Island. In addition to counseling and job training for adults, New Ground runs an aftershool tutorial program and provides scholarship for children and youth to attend summer camps. Further information can be found on the New Ground website.
